EERD for Hotel Resort

My Role

  • Data Modeler
  • ETL Developer
  • Solution Architect

Deliverables

  • EERD Chart

Competencies

  • Data Models, Relationships, and Constraints
  • Inheritance and Polymorphism
  • Normalization
  • Database Design
  • Draw.io

What

I started this project with a word document containing an explanation of the hotel operations in paragraph form. To create the enhanced entity-relationship diagram shown on the left, I needed to determine the best way to organize the information and data provided.

Why

The goal of this project is to map out the core operations of the hotel. From booking and room management, to services offered, this optimized EERD ensures no aspect of the resort is overlooked in the database.

How

By first determining the core entities of the resort, the attributes for each entity can be defined. From there, the relationships between the entities are established, followed by identifying the constraints. Once the initial diagram is complete, the next step involves optimizing or normalizing the design to reduce redundancy, ensure data integrity, and improve overall efficiency for the resort's database operations.

Burger Chain Sales by Item

My Role

  • ETL Developer
  • Data Analyst

What

I wanted to visualize the top-selling item over a three-year period, indicating its strong customer preference and consistent demand. While fries and milkshakes are still popular, they generate lower sales than the Classic. Specialty items like the Avocado, BBQ cheddar and Jalapeño burgers have the lowest sales volumes, suggesting that these options are less popular or may appeal to a niche market.

  • Pivot Table
  • Pivot Chart

Why

This insight can help the burger chain focus on promoting best-sellers, reconsidering the pricing or marketing of underperforming items, and potentially adjusting the menu based on customer preferences.

Competencies

  • Excel
  • Data cleaning

How

By breaking down revenue by year and then by month, while also showing quarterly trends, we can clearly see how each product is performing.

Toy Store Revenue by Item

My Role

  • ETL Developer
  • Data Analyst

The sales data was categorized by product type. Monthly revenue for each product category was calculated to identify trends over the 2021 sales year. The raw transaction data was aggregated to summarize monthly sales totals for each category. This allowed for comparison between product types and enabled the identification of seasonal fluctuations, such as low sales in January and peak sales in May.
